Kids make amazing movies! The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival is an annual video contest in which young filmmakers create short movies that tell the entire stories of Newbery award-winning books in just a few minutes. Creative takes are encouraged: think "Charlotte's Web" as a horror movie, or "The Tale of Desperaux" as a musical!
For fifteen years we've screened the best kid-made movies annually in New York City, Chicago, Boston, and many other cities . . . including right here in San Antonio!
Now, at City Base Cinemas, we'll be showing the BEST kid-made movies we've received over the past 15 years . . . including many made right here in San Antonio! The screening will be hosted by film festival founder James Kennedy (author of "The Order of Odd-Fish" and other books).
Tickets are free! However, we recommend making a reservation to ensure admittance to the screening, which is limited to 210 seats.
(Interested in making your own 90-Second Newbery movie? Great! The deadline for Texas entries is March 20, 2026. You can find complete details, plus video resources, at the 90-Second Newbery website.
