Join dedicated volunteers for an informative and FUN hike at Government Canyon. Knowledgeable guides discuss the flora, fauna, natural, and cultural history of Government Canyon State Natural Area. Hike length and interpretive topic(s) will vary depending on the group. The distance will be between 2 to 5 miles over easy to moderate terrain.
Who is Invited:
Hike is open to ages 10 and older. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No pets please.
Program reservations are NOT required for this hike! The hike is limited to the first 15 participants to check in with the hike leader.
When & Where to Meet:
Meet at the Frontcountry Trailhead beside Lot C (near the Amphitheater). Open to the first 15 who check in between 7:30 and 7:45 AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00 AM. We'll be taking the Bluff Spurs Trail.
How to Prepare:
Dress for hiking outdoors. Comfortable shoes/boots, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat recommended. Wear layers that can be added or removed as weather conditions change. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and snacks.

Though the hike is free, all Natural Area entrance fees apply. The Natural Area’s front gates open at 7:00 AM, and the hike begins promptly at 8:00 AM. Plan to arrive early, as Saturdays can be very busy. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass. Please note: Reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the hike!
