San Antonio River Walk, The

San Antonio makes the most of its river winding through town, with the San Antonio River Walk - or Paseo del Rio. Away from the traffic, beneath ground level, the landscaped walkways bordering the meandering San Antonio River are lined with shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants.

Following the walkways is a great way to get around town, from sight to sight, without having to negotiate traffic. You can also take a cruise along the River Walk, to see how a little imagination and good civic planning can turn a river into a truly unique city feature.

DOWNTOWN REACH
The River Walk has always been world-renowned for it’s beautiful downtown, speckled with a canopy of trees and greenery, surrounded by beautiful and diverse architecture, and of course, the wide array of restaurants, pubs, taverns, hotels, shopping and nightlife, providing locals and visitors alike a great place to work, live, play and stay. The Downtown Reach encompasses the heart of San Antonio, where visitors can enjoy high in the sky dining at the Tower of Americas, local art exhibits at Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, a touring live show at the Majestic Theatre, take in the hustle and bustle of constant activity on the River Walk, or take a floating tour of San Antonio in a river barge.

MUSEUM REACH
In 2009, a new River Walk extension was completed and christened as the Museum Reach, a 1.33-mile stretch featuring San Antonio’s world-famous zoo, the Japanese Tea Gardens, Brackenridge Park, the historic, but funky Pearl District, and three very distinguished, but very different, museums – The Witte, The Doseum and The San Antonio Museum of Art. The Museum Reach is north of downtown, pedestrian-friendly, and a great way to explore and experience a variety of different activities for individuals and families of all ages.

MISSION REACH
The River Walk Mission Reach is an eight-mile stretch that provides visitors with a very unique and historic view of San Antonio. This winding path is home to the historic San Antonio Missions Trail, a trail graced with four 18th-century Spanish Colonial missions – Mission Concepción, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada. The Mission Reach can be enjoyed by foot or by bike, and there are plenty of beautiful areas to enjoy a picnic or simply sit and enjoy the unique and beautiful surroundings only San Antonio can provide.
