Join us for the 150th performance by The Heart of Texas Concert Band “Gems from the East” in the Sonia Sotomayor High School Auditorium.
The HTxCB continues its annual tradition of presenting a concert in which the programming emulates the style of a regional orchestra. The band will present music composed by three Bohemian (Czech) composers all of who gave voice to the musical legacy of their native land. We begin with Bedřich Smetana’s musical portrait of Bohemia’s most celebrated river, The Moldau. Julius Fučík, Bohemia’s “March King” will be heard in his “Entry of the Gladiators” and “Flames of Love Waltzes.” Soloist for the program will be San Antonio native Tessa Gartin performing Carl Maria von Weber’s Concertino for Clarinet. The program will conclude with Antonín Dvořák’s beloved Symphony No. 8.
