Every first Tuesday of the month, enjoy extra family-friendly programming with SAMA during their Bexar County FREE admission hours. Please Note: While Bexar County free hours begin at 4:00 PM, First Tuesday programming start time is either 5:00 or 6:00 PM.
2026 Schedule:
Jan. - Family Yoga: Enjoy a gentle, family-friendly yoga session with Seme Jatib, dancer, choreographer, and yoga instructor. Stretch and breathe together—no experience needed. A limited number of mats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Feb. - Symbolic Resist Painting: Explore the visual language of New African Masquerades through a hands-on resist painting activity inspired by the techniques of Ukara cloth. Create your own personal symbols, imprint them using wax-resist watercolor techniques, and reflect on how imagery communicates identity and meaning.
Apr. - Watercolor SAMA Loteria: Create your own SAMA-inspired lotería card using watercolor! Drop in and paint unique designs inspired by the Museum’s collection.
May. - Ceramic Tile Painting: Hand-paint a ceramic tile inspired by Canvas to Clay. Paint in the style of Mata Ortiz pottery using local flora and fauna motifs, or draw from Georgia O’Keeffe’s bold, organic forms.
