Luminaria - Arts Come To Light

Luminaria - Arts Come To Light

Luminaria is an evening public arts festival that draws over 30,000 people annually to downtown San Antonio to celebrate the arts. It is free of charge and family-centric. Expect to be immersed in music, dance, film, literary arts, theater and visual arts.

Artists from San Antonio and all over the country create dramatic stage performances, magical streetscapes, dazzling light installations and galleries filled with surprising treasures. Local chefs and restaurants serve festival-goers from their mobile kitchens.

The word Luminaria refers to a traditional light or lantern popular in Latino cultures and ubiquitous in San Antonio. The notions of illumination, energy, warmth, movement and tradition inspired by this icon are integral to the Luminaria event, which features works of art based on the general theme of light.

Hemisfair, Magik Theatre, Intituto Cultural de Mexico, UNAM, the River Walk grotto at the Convention Center, Yanaguana Park, and Neuva Street come alive with all all of the arts.
