SUMMARY:Cirque du Soleil: OVO at Frost Bank Center
LOCATION:1 Frost Bank Center Dr., San Antonio, TX 78219
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Touring circus company Cirque du Soleil's OVO offers a nonstop, life-affirm
ing, two-hour tribute to the infinitely diverse world of insects. Created a
nd directed by Deborah Colker, OVO (Portuguese for "egg") contemplates inse
cts in all their beauty, action, and curiosity. Brazilian composer Berna Ce
ppas transforms their flight, leaps, creeping, and crawling into a samba-in
fluenced choreographic spectacle augmented by the constant flutter and hum
of real insect sounds.

A trio of principal characters — Master F
lipo, Foreigner, and Ladybug — keeps this arena spectacular in constant mot
ion, as awestruck insects become intensely interested in a mysterious egg's
sudden appearance. OVO teems with life, and Cirque du Soleil's talented ca
st mirrors the insect world's natural abilities to fly, balance, and leap w
ith a lifetime of practice and precision.

During one of the comp
any's largest flying acts, 10 scarab beetles on three platforms toss a sing
le beetle back and forth. A colorfully costumed dragonfly flits about, red
ants juggle chunks of kiwi and corncobs with their feet, and butterflies cl
ing gracefully to one another as they float through the air. For OVO's gran
d finale, the large span used for brilliant lighting effects transforms int
o a two-story climbing wall onto which trampoline-powered crickets are hurl
ed as though onto a vertical stage. Cockroaches, grasshoppers, and other in
sects serve as supporting characters throughout the evening's dozen acrobat
ic tours de force.
