 vity, and volunteer spirit into the Battle of Flowers Parade — the celebrat
 ion that started it all. \n\nKnown as “Where Fiesta Began,” the Battle of F
 lowers Parade is proudly the largest parade run entirely by women in the Un
 ited States. As the founding event of Fiesta, it brings more than 550,000 s
 pectators together each year to celebrate Texas history, community, and tra
 dition.\n\nThe purpose of the parade is to honor the defenders of the Alamo
  and Goliad and to commemorate the victory at the Battle of San Jacinto tha
 t gained Texas its independence. Spectacular flower-covered floats with par
 ticipants adorned in colorful costumes, giant helium balloons, horse-drawn 
 carriages, antique cars, uniformed military, colorful cavalcades, and thous
 ands of students in marching bands, vanguards, and pep squads have come to 
 entertain the crowds for the past 133 years.
