Music Therapy

Music therapy is an allied health profession that uses music experiences and activities to help clients reach their goals. These goals are generally non-musical and come from the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains.

The possibilities include:

  • improving fine and gross motor skills through instrument play

  • increasing emotional expression through songwriting

  • developing social skills in a musical environment

  • practicing a variety of academic or pre-academic skills

Music therapists hold a national credential Music Therapist - Board Certified (MT-BC) which is obtained upon passing a comprehensive exam after completing an academic degree program and clinical internship.

Music therapy services at Crescendo Center will begin with an assessment (generally two sessions and a subsequent written report, billed as a one-time flat fee) and ongoing services consist of a weekly half-hour or one-hour session, though alternate schedules are available. Sessions may be individual, group, or sibling.

Virtual sessions are available, though it will be recommended that the client purchase a few small instruments to keep at home.

Baby and Me Music Class

Join us for simple songs, baby-safe instruments, and engaging music experiences for your little one aged 0 to 2, as well as conversation and companionship for the adults in the room. Though this class will be led by a board-certified music therapist, this is not a therapy group; it’s designed as a community space to explore music with your baby and make connections with other caregivers.

Each class is limited to 4 baby/caregiver pairs. Classes are $15 each (per pair) and class packs of 5 are available for $65 (must use within 3 months).

Toddler Music Time

Designed for young children ages 2 and 3, this class includes lots of musical fun and opportunities to practice early social skills, including sharing and taking turns. Though this class will be led by a board-certified music therapist, this is not a therapy group; it’s open to the general community and children of all abilities are welcome!

Accompanying grown-ups are invited to participate alongside their child or sit outside the circle and observe, but must remain on site; this is not a drop-off program. Each class is limited to 4 children. Classes are $15 each and class packs of 5 are available for $65 (must use within 3 months).

Music Therapy Consulting Services

Do you work with clients that could benefit from using music within their sessions with LPCs, LMSWs, or LCSWs? Or maybe you supervise a staff of preschool teachers looking to incorporate more music into their daily learning activities? Or perhaps you have a music room at your facility that needs an upgrade?

Rose can come out to your agency and provide training to staff on using music with the people you serve. She can also inventory your music space and/or materials and recommend items that may enhance music experiences at your facility.

Professional Mentorship for MT-BCs

Rose is pleased to share the knowledge and skills she has acquired over the last 14 years as a music therapist and social worker with other board-certified music therapists seeking to enhance their skills. She has supported MT-BCs with ideas for working with young children, assistance with refining goals and objectives, and suggestions for data collection and documentation.

Meetings can be held virtually or in person.
