Youth Development
This initiative is structured to develop global competencies, intercultural communication skills, and empower San Antonio’s youth. Our goal is to make a meaningful impact across diverse cultures and geographical boundaries, having positively influenced over 900 students to date. At the heart of our efforts is the Virtual Exchange program which connects students in San Antonio Independent School Districts to their peers in the Middle East and North Africa region. Past exchanges have successfully linked San Antonio students to those in Libya, Palestine, Qatar, and Algeria. Additionally, we host an Arabic STEAM Camp annually, which allows students to learn Arabic language and culture, as well as gain cultural community insight through fieldtrips across San Antonio, and engage in hands-on STEAM activities, fostering both personal growth and global awareness.
Arabic Language & Culture
Culturingua provides enrichment language and culture exploratory programs to students in grades 3 to 9. Students pretend to visit various countries of the Arab world while learning Arabic thematic and functional vocabulary. The courses also explore current events in the various countries in the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The programs follow the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Can-Do Statements for Communication and Intercultural Communication. The programs teach Modern Standard Arabic (MSA).
Culturingua brings together high school students from its partner schools around the globe to work together to develop a solution for global issues. Through this project-based learning program, students are grouped in small cross-geography teams to create a solution in the form of a social enterprise using a Design Thinking Process that aims to solve a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UNSDG).
Culturingua brings together high school students from its partner schools around the globe to work together to develop a solution for global issues. Through this project-based learning program, students are grouped in small cross-geography teams to create a solution to a Vital Condition for Well-Being in both San Antonio, USA, and Benghazi, Libya.
Culturingua's MindWell program partners with The City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, with ARPA funding, to provide mental health services to immigrant and refugee youth, ages 12-19. These youth are students in one of the San Antonio school districts.
MindWell: social and emotional support program is comprised of a peer support group and individual counseling. To ensure students feel safe and supported within these services, we ensure our peer support specialists share the same cultural background and speak the same language. Therapy services are provided by a licensed therapist, aided by a medically certified interpreter. MindWell has an overall goal of reducing youth’s symptoms of anxiety and depression and to promote overall healing, growth, and self-confidence.
