Collections & Services

The Schaefer Branch Library provides community responsive services, a robust collection of books and materials, and integrated technology.

The library includes all of the traditional and modern resources San Antonio residents have come to expect. Print and electronic books are available, along with a public computing lab, free WiFi, and laptops available for check out.

Professional librarians provide reference and research assistance, and programming for children, teens and adults.

The Schaefer Branch Library offers communal learning spaces, individual study spaces and lounge areas. The building houses a large community meeting room for civic activities. The branch also includes a children’s playground, thanks to the Rotary Club of San Antonio / Kingdom for Kids XVI.

Community

The Schaefer Branch Library is located in the Eastside. This new Library contributes to the quality of life of the area, and offers access to an array of Library services and programs. It serves as a destination point for the community and provides opportunities for civic engagement. Libraries provide a place where students learn, citizens engage, and communities gather. The goal is to provide citizens access to resources that encourage lifelong learning and to open new doors for our community and its citizens.

Freedom of Expression Area

The Freedom of Expression Area is located underneath the flagpole. Freedom of Expression Areas are specifically designated areas on San Antonio Public Library grounds where free expression activities may occur.

Library Freedom of Expression Policy

History

San Antonio Artist Cakky Brawley has designed a suspended illuminated sculpture to be placed within the branch interior. The artwork depicts a globe and two maps that reference the past, present and future of the Library site.
