History

The Edmund Cody Branch Library, opened April 29, 1984, is the 14th branch established by the San Antonio Public Library and is built on land donated by the Northside Independent School District. The branch is named in honor of Mr. Edmund Cody, who served as the Superintendent of the Northside School District for seventeen years and was instrumental in promoting the community library.

Friends of Cody Branch Library funded purchase of children's furniture and a startup collection of compact discs.

Renovation of cody Branch, under 1989 bond election funding, began in May of 1998 and the branch was reopened on August 23, 1999. Additional land for renovation was donated again by the Northside Independent School District. The branch was expanded over 3,000 square feet with a new meeting room and study room added and general renovation of the branch with a new roof and expanded HVAC system.
