Park History

Bryan McClain Park, located near the intersection of O'Connor Road and Knollcrest, 15806 O'Connor Road, was dedicated on November 17, 2001, in memory of Bryan McClain, a Madison High School graduate and Texas A&M University student who died when the A&M bonfire stack collapsed in 1999.

The San Antonio City Council approved the purchase of the 97-acre park and its naming on October 11, 2001. The purchase was made possible with One-Time Improvement Funds from City Council District 10 and a $100,000 donation from Martin Marietta Materials Southwest Division through the San Antonio Parks Foundation.

The parks pavilion and concrete walkways were built by the San Antonio Chapter of the American Subcontractors Association, which donated the materials and labor.

Bryan was a 1998 graduate of Madion High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and competed on the Madison swim team. At the time of his death, he was a sophomore at Texas A&M, Class of 2002, where he was studying entomology. He was a member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Air Force Squadron 2.

In 2007, an 18-hole disc golf course was added to the park.
